In the 50 years of the existence of ISMA International, there has never been reason to doubt its relevance, as stress continued to need its management worldwide. At present, greater levels of exhaustion and other manifestations of poor wellbeing, due to both structural/technical and cultural changes at the interface of work and private life, require attention. Recovery experiences and their determinants have been a topic in research and practice in the Netherlands for a long time and are still just as relevant as they were 50 years ago. In addition, coaching has been found to be effective more recently, both in the reduction and the prevention of exhaustion caused by (professional) burnout. However, there is still a lot to discover in respect of the way it works, making international exchanges, cooperation and inspiration desirable.
