Beyond the Half Century: Reflecting on the Past, Charting the Future

INTERACTIVE PANEL DISCUSSION

Including 15 minutes’ Q & A

Live Event Moderated by Amy McKeown

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of both ISMA and the Health and Safety at Work Act, and the 20th anniversary of the HSE’s Management Standards on Stress.

How much progress have we made in health and wellbeing - what do we know now that we didn't know 50 years ago? Has the stigma around mental health decreased? What is the role of leaders in relation to wellbeing in organisations? What impact have the HSE’s Management Standards had on organisations and the prevention of stress? What is the future for global psychosocial risk management?

How can the workplace evolve to support multiple generations, make age irrelevant, and provide a stress-free, inclusive future for all?

This topical session kicks off our Stress & Wellbeing Summit, with four thought leaders who will discuss these crucial issues and share their insights with us.

  • Professor Sir Cary Cooper CBE
  • Kay Allen OBE
  • Dr Fiona Meechan

Community Care: How Organisations Champion Health, Safety and Wellbeing

INTERACTIVE PANEL DISCUSSION

Including 15 minutes’ Q & A

Live Event Moderated by Paul Davison

The Health and Safety at Work Act states there is a requirement for a duty of care for all employees. For many, this is limited to a physical duty of care. However, a caring environment manages all factors potentially harmful to health: physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual. Through empathetic, active listening, supportive and regular communications provide the basis for the handling of sensitive and potentially challenging conversations. This in turn fosters supportive environments where aspects of work and life can be comfortably discussed. Such discussions lead to improved mental health, attendance and productivity. In today’s session, you will hear from experts who advocate this holistic approach to employee wellbeing.

However, what about those organisations that excel in this area and are recognised for their efforts? What can we learn from them? By gaining insights into their successful strategies, you can introduce similar initiatives into your own company or organisation.

Many organisations implement various interventions to support their employees' well-being, and some take pride in prioritising their employees. These are the organisations worth emulating. '“Stress manifests itself in many facets of people’s lives and statistics show that stress and mental health-related issues are increasing since the pandemic. Therefore, we need to amplify our efforts to address these issues, seeking to reduce their adverse effects, as well as the stigma that continues to attach to them. I am delighted that ISMAUK are redoubling their efforts in these areas, and the Online Global Stress & Wellbeing Summit they are holding in their 50th anniversary year will shine a spotlight on some of today’s key topics, from health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace to AI and the future. Please support their efforts by spreading the word and attending these insightful sessions.”
