Alastair was former PM Tony Blair’s director of communications, a role he occupied until 2003. He has since become increasingly involved with mental health charities and causes, speaking about his own experience of depression and psychosis. A former Mind Champion of the Year, he is an Ambassador for Time to Change, raising awareness about mental illness. He co-founded the all-party campaign, Equality4MentalHealth, credited with securing £600m for mental health services. Alastair was awarded an honorary fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, recognising his leading role in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health.
